Science Fair

A science fair is a competitive event, whose distinguishing characteristic is that project entries employ the scientific method to test a hypothesis. Science fairs are not exhibits or mere displays of projects. Students present their science project results in the form of a report, display board, and/or models that they have created. Science fairs allow students in middle, high-schools, and college to compete in science and/or technology activities. The goal of a science fair is for students to answer a question based on a hypothesis. Students often work on science fair projects in addition to their school work. Therefore, most science fair entries are usually modified versions of existing experiments. Display boards help communicate the nuances of a project to science fair judges, visitors, and other entrants, and after the fair, the judges usually announce the winner based on their observations.

The Institute of Mining, Mineralogy and Metallurgy (IMMM), BCSIR, Joypurhat arrange science fair every year in January, to develop scientific attitude among the students of Schools, Colleges, Madrasa, and Science Clubs from Joypurhat and surrounding districts. The participant usually divides into three groups, middle school (class VI to VIII), high school (class IX to X), and College (class XI to XII). Inspiring rewards, crest, and a certificate are given to the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd position holder student from every group. Besides, every participant has been awarded a certificate of participation as well as a participant is awarded the best innovative project from all presented projects.
